To anyone who needs to see a medical professional and worries about being denied treatment or tests:

Tell them to document your request for a test, THEIR denial, and THEIR reason for denying it.

Do not leave until they have written it in your chart, and then request a copy of the chart. Do not leave until they give it to you. Nine times out of ten, they'll get scared of a lawsuit and cave to your request. If they're that last one out of ten, now you have evidence of their negligence to present in a court case.

If you are being spoken to disrespectfully, a full-volume "I BEG YOUR PARDON" will do wonders. Not only will the staff overhear (and hopefully come to your rescue), but other patients will also hear, and the disrespectful medical personnel will begin backpedaling. Making formal complaints is also highly effective, as is targeting the medical facility's social media.

This is my sister's story. She's pre-med right now and recently had to go through the corpse dissection portion of her education. There was a particularly uncooperative corpse of a woman named Linda, and amongst the many funny stories about this dead lady, my favorite one is that time she lost her boob. After a breast dissection wherein they fully removed both breasts, one of her fellow students didn't secure the left one properly and in the process of putting Linda back in her tank, it fell off! It quickly sank to the bottom and nobody was going to jump into a vat of preservative fluids to retrieve it. Trying to fish it out with a pole didn't work so they just had to leave it there. About a week later, the fluids shifted enough for them to successfully retrieve said boob. After all the trouble that little dead lady gave her class, any time something ridiculous went wrong everybody said, "Dammit Linda!"

One thing about being old af, Drs used to yank your tonsils out without making you wait and wait. Mine came out at 6! I know it’s not always the answer, but I’ve had it better than some of my younger friends who’ve had to deal with umpteen cases of tonsillitis.

I've had bad periods my whole life. In college the campus nurse put me on a bc pill to help with cramps and bleeding. Cut to my late 20s go to a new Dr with my new insurance and go through all the tests and stuff. Get the are you pregnant or think you might be? No, I'm gay. Why are you on bc? Because of cramps/bleeding. Well I get my bill a month later, and there was a $30 charge for a pregnancy test. I called the office, they said it was a routine test for all women who are on BC... I was like even when I am gay and told the Dr that? They said they still did the test to be sure. I fought the charge and got sent to collections. I ended up working with the insurance company to have it removed from my history and have the charge taken away.

My nurse practitioner told me to stop vaping and said if I needed to smoke, I should smoke cigarettes instead of vaping.

What would be worse than someone saying your boy is deceased, then saying actually he’s alive. You would think what the hell is happening?

Interesting how many lesbians are asked if they're pregnant, although it seems like it mattered in all those cases. I also had one of those, but me being a lesbian didn't change anything for me. I was still being hounded for a pregnancy test.

I went to the ER because of a head injury and some very alarming symptoms. The doctor didn't ask me if I was sexually active, but she still just got convinced that I was pregnant and refused to do any kind of headscans.
I'd peed before going to the ER so I wasn't due to pee anytime soon. I literally couldn't do a pregnancy test. I have this weird thing where I only pee once or twice a day, it started after one of my multiple brain injuries.
I told the doctor that there's literally no chance of me being pregnant because usually you have to have sex to get pregnant.
Doctor: "yeah, but it could always be"
1. I'm a lesbian
2. I lost all interest in sex after my previous brain injury about 4 years earlier, so I hadn't had ANY sex for four years.

I waited in the hospital for 6 hours, with them regularly hounding me for a pregnancy test, before they decided that they needed my bed for someone else. So, I just asked to go home, since I obviously wasn't going to get any treatment for what I came there for.
Straight after getting home I took some painkillers because I was starting to get a massive headache and went straight to bed... slept 12 hours, and went to pee about an hour after I woke up.
They would have had to wait about 18 hours for this useless pregnancy test, despite how hard they tried to fill me with fluids.
My alarming symptoms, which included stage two hypertension, started to slowly go away after about a couple of weeks.

My mom thought it was hilarious and asked me every day when baby Jesus was coming.

6 months later I was traveling the US when I hit my head very hard on a hotel counter. I went to the ER in Nashville and was sent straight for a CT scan.
They said that they didn't see any new damage, but found a huge scar on my brain, a few months old, they said.

Yeah, pregnant... in the brain.

Lmao one of the greatest things in my life is how much my Sittoo survived all the way to her passing. Hell, she probably would’ve lived longer if her medication hadn’t had a midlife crisis and tried fixing the (secret) leukemia instead of the pneumonia she went to the hospital for. Woman survived everything from Stage 4 breast cancer to gout, along with a ton of world events. Even when she knew she was passing she put on a brave face for her family and accepted it like the absolute goddess she was. Hell, when she bought the entire family a row of burial plots (including me and my older sister who were 15 and 17 lmao) she flexed on her late best friend/rival by saying the view from our row is much nicer!

I started having really really bad pain while dancing when I was like 9 (I was heavily involved with my churches youth group, and we performed A LOT for other churches, plus I was a really active kid at the time) one day I collapsed in pain during practice, I went home and my mom got me a doctors appointment for the next day to see what was going on. Family doctor said I had an “extra growth plate” in my left knee, so we let it go for a week then the pain got way worse so I had a biopsy done, turns out IT WAS FUCKING BONE CANCER. Needless to say, we got a new family doctor after that. I’m now 25 and have been cancer free (as far as I know 👁👄👁) for about 14 year. Permanently disabled but hey, shit could of been A LOT worse lmao.

As a mortgage broker, I addressed a breakfast about closing a deal by massaging a man's shoulder back to full, painless movement. Beside me I was asked for help. Eleven years of agony, ten specialists and seventy thousand dollars, still couldn't shake hands. I manipulated his arm for two minutes to pain free. No charge.
