At age 76 I can't imagine returning to clip in pedals. Walk where I want, comfort everywhere, don't look like a wannabe racer and easier dismounting and getting off at a green light.
For the summer my Tevas were great with their firm soles and now as it cools Vans.

So, I use flats for all bikepacking trips. If it's COLD, I bring insulated slippers too. Overnighters are such a great way to get out for a real break in the routine. Last year I finished raking leaves at 1 pm, spent 30 minutes packing the bike and was gone. Had a great meal at a small brewery, slept next to a beautiful river. Next day I rode into Vermont, had a burger for lunch, got on a train and an hour later I started pedaling the last 10 miles home. Super easy, super fun.

Flats AND clips for me. Gives you the opportunity to wear camp shoes on the bike if need be. Ultimate utility.

Flats and cheap "Locals" sandals for the camp. Being able to take off my stinky sweaty shoes and socks at the end of a long ride is one of the best feelings.

At 71, flats for everything. I used to use toe clips until a friend fell off on a slow corner and broke his wrist. PTs see a lot my age who had clip-less injuries. Falling off the bike at my age can be a serious must avoid.

I can't say how pleased I am that you have that traditional style network style microphone. I get the ick from seeing people hold a lavalier mic.

BERTS SHOES! Brilliant shoes that I take everywhere.

Crank Brothers Stamps and Keen sandals. Here in Mexico, I am always going through water, and there's no way I'm taking my shoes off to do that.
