For anyone interested, I found some of the original verses for the infamous...

Colonel Bogey March

Lyrics

Hitler has only got one ball,
The other is in the Albert Hall,
His mother, the dirty bugger,
Chopped it off when Hitler was small.
She threw it into the apple tree,
the wind blew it into the deep blue sea,
Where the fishes got out their dishes,
And ate scallops and bollocks for tea.

Rommel has four or five, I guess,
No one's quite sure 'bout Rudolf Hess,
Schmeling's always yelling,
But poor old Goebbels has no balls at all.

Notes
1. In some versions, "rather small" or "they are small".
2. In some versions, "is very sim'lar" or "has something sim'lar".
3. In some versions, "brother" rather than "mother".
4. In some versions, "Cut it off when he was small"[
5. In other versions, it is sung as "threw it into the conker tree"

Cheers!!!🤩🤩🤩

My father was WWII Pacific vet. He thought this was a fantastic film and helped me to appreciate its nuances. It is an underappreciated film imho.

Laughton (Lawton) would not have been correct physically for the part tho he was better known to American audiences. Besides this film gives us an opportunity to see Obi wan Kenobi in his younger days.

I worked with someone who worked on the Burma railway and saw the movie. He wasn’t impressed. If 100 workers were needed they took soldiers, officers and sick people who worked or died. The biggest men died first, the lightly built survived. He weighed less than 100 lb and was 6 months in hospital in 1945/46. One man died for every sleeper/tie that they layed. Each man in his group had a date they could live to. His date was Christmas 1945.

Love the story about the elephants “union schedule”. I wonder who their union representatives were.

Epic film, much artistic license taken as per the vets who were actually prisoners there. What they hated most was the idea of cooperation with the enemy. The wooden bridge was hokey It was steel in actuality.Showed the horrors of war and captivity under the Japanese The"Colonel Saito" role was played impeccably

Two more facts, the walk Alec Guinness developed for the scene where he is released from the sweat box was based on his sons walk following polio.

The scene just after where Major Clipton says "madness..... Madness" and then seen walking away, isn't actually James Donald, but a stand in. When they come to film that scene, because of how tight they were to the end of the schedule, and because James Donald had a even worse relationship with David Lean than Guinness, had flown out home, so they when they discovered they needed a long shot of him walking away from the camera, with the film already way over budget, they had to get one of the crew of approx same height and build to stand in

9 Years after this Film, Jack Hawkins (Major Warden) lost his voice following a cancer operation. He made around 8 more films before the operation. Any film with Jack Hawkins after 1966 uses a voice double and his lines are dubbed.
