This was super helpful, especially seeing how much Step 2 matters now for different specialties. When I was studying, using practice tests plus Predict My Step Score helped me get a better idea of whether I was actually on track for my goal before exam day.

250 average for PMR sounds high. I thought the average MD match is 247 and average DO is somewhere similar.

You are incorrect to say that Ophthalmology is far from being one of the most competitive specialties in medicine. Even with publications, the stats show if you did not get AOA AND Gold humanism, along with a step score >259, you chance of matching was ~50%. Basically a coin flip. Ophthalmology is extremely competitive! :)
