I really want to see how the Motorolla collab goes. Having a privacy-first flippy phone seems like a dream

Long time GrapheneOS user checking in ✅ I'm just glad that the OS is gaining popularity. I tried a few non-Pixel phones in the last couple of years but I always come back to Graphene 👍🏻

Graphene makes my phone MINE!
No bloatware.
No restricting what I can download.
Very little spyware.
When I turn off a function, it's off.
I sacrifice some features, but my old LG stylo can do what I need as a WiFi device

The work around for your apps you miss woes is to create a second user profile. You can Google that profile up all you want. That would allow you to put Chrome and the stock Pixel camera app in a separate environment that you can switch to when you want or need and not let the cat out of the bag so to speak. I have a completely separate profile on my Pixel 9a and even named it Google. It’s like dividing up your sandbox and you decide which one you want to play in without any sand spilling into the other one.

I recently switched to graphene OS so I really appreciate this. I didn't even consider the idea of other camera apps and I totally forgot that I heard about Thunderbird ages ago so this was great content and helped give me ideas on how to break in my new phone.

I'm convinced apple people just cannot switch to ANYTHING else. Apple has done a scarily good job of building a really high wall on their garden.

I bought a refurbished Pixel 8 last month for the express purpose of installing GrapheneOS on it. Overall I'm pleased with the experience and don't expect to go back. But, even though I'm not a professional photographer I do wish the camera was better (I am using OpenCamera) and I do miss being able to tap with Google Pay. (I do have one of those stick on card holders on order.) As a trade off for those issues I do like that I'm not being tracked by some mega-corporation every second. I'm self hosting a fitness/health app and a location tracking app and a photo app and my own calendar and contact system so I feel like I'm still able to have all the convenience of being connected while keeping control of my data.

LIke you I did find the process of installing GrapheneOS pretty simple but it's definitely not meant for the casual user. Hopefully the Motorola deal with bring more people into the fold. ;)
