It’s really apparent this was my first attempt at a video-essay style format. I appreciate all of the constructive criticism and feedback, it’s very much warranted since admittedly it feels more like a plot summary than an actual analysis. I realize now that I really could have done a much better job at analyzing the weird route and I should have delved more into the undertones and themes and such. This was my first ever attempt at a video essay and I will try to do better in the future<br><br>Also apologies if me emphasizing the “lesbian” part of Noelle and Susie’s relationship made any of you cringe, not sure why I did that. I don’t want to come off as creepy in any way because I myself am a part of the LGBTQIA+ community and I genuinely did not mean for it to come off as weird at all<br><br>I also apologize for the weird cut in the voiceover at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSzk241CHA0&amp;t=5318">01:28:38</a>, it didn’t appear like that when I was editing so my best guess is that it was a bug when the video was exporting<br><br>As another addendum, this route is NOT an allegory for sexual assault. It was not the intention of Toby Fox and it is best to not misrepresent his work as such.<br><br>Some mild corrections too:<br><br>Noelle makes the same face during the first battle on the normal route as well, not just on the weird route<br><br>The additional triangle on the door isn’t upside down, not sure how I screwed this one up<br><br>The enemies in the s rank minigames aren’t aggro when you grab the sword, they only turn aggro once you start attacking<br><br>The Ferris wheel interaction and the first annoying maus room puzzle don’t actually effect the route, but they still fit the rest of the route extremely well<br><br>You can tell Noelle the thought of stepping off the plate is horrible and it’ll still continue the route, but it still reaffirms the point that we can still hear her thoughts<br><br>It’s not confirmed if Noelle actually knows snowgrave or not, but her insistence on not using it definitely implies she at least knew something bad was going to happen if she casted it, but it’s still possible she didn’t know the spell like she claimed<br><br>Based on inventory changes, it seems more likely Kris took Berdly to the hospital and went to Noelle’s house between chapters 3 and 4, not chapters 2 and 3<br><br>Queen and King&apos;s dialogue at the end of chapter 2 isn&apos;t related to the weird route, despite what I initially thought<br><br>Kris doesn&apos;t tell Susie and Ralsei to stay behind before going into the S rank room<br><br>The chapter 3 mantle questline isn&apos;t exclusive to getting an S rank or buying one, you can also access it by getting a Z rank<br><br>The knight’s gender isn’t confirmed, so it’d be more accurate to refer to it with they/them or it/its<br><br>Eram’s name is pronounced EE-ram, not ay-ram

  Noelle represents and embodies the trauma responses: fawn and freeze. <br><br>Noelle’s reaction to fear/trauma is that she either tries to please others when she’s threatened (fawn) or completely shuts down and is unable to move or speak (freeze).<br><br><b>Noelle is a deer (fawn) and she has ice powers (freeze).</b><br><br>Godd*mnit Toby lmao

  One thing I find so interesting about Toby&apos;s evil routes is that they&apos;re often the fastest way to see certain character interactions and the depths of a given character&apos;s moral fibers.<br><br>Berdly&apos;s ability and willingness to be a genuine hero.<br>Susie&apos;s attentiveness and understanding that something&apos;s being kept from her.<br>Spamton&apos;s willingness to kill not being mere desperation, but an act of spite towards those he thinks will abandon him.<br>Noelle&apos;s insecurities and a desire to grow past them.<br>Queen genuinely believing that what she&apos;s doing is for the best.<br>And plain and simply... That Kris isn&apos;t remotely evil even though they&apos;re essentially a supporting antagonist. They wouldn&apos;t dream of hurting anyone irreparably, and the only reason they seem to feel no remorse for smacking the SOUL around is because it&apos;s a part of them they&apos;re trying to choke down for the sake of their mission.<br><br>We only see these when the characters are in their darkest moments.<br><br>And we can see it so much sooner by <i>becoming</i> their darkest moment.<br><br>Berdly proves his heroism to the last.<br>Susie immediately notices something is wrong with Kris the moment they meet back up.<br>Spamton jumps at the chance to shamelessly aid in wholesale slaughter for his own ends.<br>Noelle, even as she&apos;s continually beaten down emotionally, still trying to offer some kind of resistance and maintain some kind of agency.<br>Queen drops the issue without a fight because she&apos;s not sure what to do anymore.<br>And Kris, forced to act all of it out on your behalf, trying to mitigate and counteract your influence over them to keep you from doing any more harm to the people they care about.

  You forgot smth in the chapter 4, when Ralsei is talking to you, and you resist to thinking about the knight, will appear a new option that says &quot;think of noelle&quot;. It shows an unique Weird Rout scene, appears a red dot and then Noelle says slowly &quot;Thank you...&quot;

  I have no idea if it&apos;s intentionnal from Toby or not, but Noelle HP goes down up to 55 with the thornring equiped (1/3rd of her max HP). And 55 in roman numbers is wrote LV. Just find this detail so nice.

  It&apos;s fascinating how effective Toby uses the rule of &quot;less is more&quot; to create the perfect horror atmosphere. Modern horror relies a lot on jumpscares, disturbing images, unsettling music (especially high-pitched distorted strings), violence, etc. But for Toby, this is too rewarding for us. The horror he gives us isn&apos;t supposed to be entertaining. So he removes the music, the fun interactions, the puzzles, and he makes the boss battles either too easy or a total chore.<br><br>By making the Genocide Route in Undertale and Weird Route in Deltarune as joyless, dark and uncomfortable as possible, Toby denies us any excuse we could make to choose these paths. We&apos;re just satisfying our morbid curiosity by ignoring any chance of turning back. What could be more evil than someone who commits such violent and manipulative acts just to satisfy a dark and twisted curiosity about what will happen next? That&apos;s something a psychopath would do in real life.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSzk241CHA0&amp;t=4305">1:11:45</a> You missed a hidden scene! During the dialogue with Susie, you still have control over pixel Kris. You can move them back into the room, and if you try to stab Susie, the real Kris yanks her out of the way, with their sprite visibly hyperventilating. If you did the weird route in that save, I&apos;m sure Kris thinks you&apos;re an actual demon by this point.
