Washington did not free even his own slaves in his will. His will transferred their ownership to his wife for as long as she lived at which point they would be freed. His wife freed them earlier than the will required and died shortly after.

On his death bed, he had a change of heart. No human wants to owned and George Washington new this. And as Cristian he knew about the Golden Rule and the teachings of Christ.
