Napoleon bemoaned at his death, " they wanted me to be another Washington".<br>Indeed they did. Had he done so it would have benefited France far more than all his victories.

Washington only freed about 120 enslaved workers. The rest belonged to Martha for her lifetime and were bequeathed to Martha's grandchildren. I was glad to hear that he made some provisions for them to be able have a new life.

Washington had good reason to be protective of his reputation. He nearly destroyed it in his youth in starting the French and Indian War by killing a French ambassador when he was young and hot headed...and then to be tricked into admiting guilt by singing a confession in French which he didn't speak or read.
