The fact that Lt. Bouck refused his Silver Star until his entire platoon was recognized says everything you need to know about his character. 37 years is a long time to wait for justice, but I’m glad they finally became the most decorated unit of their size. True leaders always put their men first. Rest in peace, legends.

That is an absolute true story, I met Lyle Bouck in St Louis county Missouri. After the war he became a successful chiropractor.<br>At our initial meeting, I noticed his license plate on his car, a Purple Heart. Asked him about, he graciously told me his story. Then he drove home and got a copy of his book. He wrote about his life in the military, the longest winter, and he signed it with a great man. He was the youngest officer in the army. At that time he turned 21 years old the day of the battle, the battle of the bulge thank you so much for sharing his story one like this, and I’m sure others would be a great movie. One thing. Lyle was proud of no one in his unit died. They all came back from prisoner of war camp, and survived the war. Thanks again, Nathan L Johnson.

The moment Bu refused to save ammunition and instead ordered everyone to fire as fast as possible just to convince the Germans they still had plenty left was brilliant. That psychological gamble probably bought more time than any extra bullets could have.

Wartime innovation often came at a terrible human cost. Important to remember that side too.
