  I love this concept of “we have a choice”. How do I personally have a choice in all this? Again, it’s the top one percent driving it all.

  I choked when Jack Clark spoke about how much AI will, in the future,  increase countries economies dramatically, by the revenues they will produce. We were promised this with the internet and I.T. Hardware expansion (Amazon, Google, Apple et al), and all the major players that have  provided those goods and services here in the UK simply set up their European Head Offices in Ireland, enabling them to take UK citizen's money as income from the sale of those goods and services, but also enabled them to avoid paying any proper amount of Corporation Tax to the UK Government on the huge profits that they make annually. The money didn't drip down into our economy, it left our economy and is stored/invested overseas.

  Welp, that was unsettling. Brilliant interview topic, with great interviewers, and a generous guest. <br><br>I can&apos;t help but feel animosity towards the people who work on this. They intellectually acknowledge the risks, yet the risks don&apos;t seem to resonate with them emotionally. I can imagine being in their shoes; the work must be incredibly interesting, the impact is massive, and the salaries are massive. Their research, once fated to obscurity for many more decades, has suddenly and unexpectedly changed their lives beyond their wildest dreams. They&apos;ve become superstars. It must feel like being on crack. And therein lies their downfall; just like the crack addict, they intellectually acknowledge that their penchant is destructive, but emotionally it doesn&apos;t resonate enough to stop them.<br><br>This aninosity is probably not fair. Just like it isn&apos;t constructive to view drug addiction as a moral failing, and so perhaps it isn&apos;t constructive to view the creators of our undoing as having morally failed. They are simply a product of their circumstances and the incentives of the system in which they operate. The incentives are too strong, the rationalizations too compelling.<br><br>Still... I suspect humanity will not look back fondly upon those who built these tools. Especially as they so greatly enriched themselves in the process.

  Loved this set up. <br><br>Industry expert explaining important developments in their sector, a mediator in the middle with experience in the field, and Rory exploring how it intersects politically.<br><br>Would love one exploring changes to the UK music industry or advances in medicine as an example.

  The problem with the nuclear energy analogy is that the first thing we did with that technology was build and deploy weaponry. So all of today’s benefits emerged post unimaginable horror.
