Imagine if his school hosted a science fair and he brought a nuclear reactor 💀

The kid nearly blew his eyes out had to be rushed to the hospital and had to routinely see an opthamologist, and no one thought to investigate?

Not informing your ex, who also has custody of your son, about the explosion that caused a hospital visit and multiple appointments is wild. Like. There's a lot wild about this but I feel like that explains David's behavior quite well...

Son. You made a nuclear reactor, nearly caused a meltdown, nearly irradiated the neighborhood, and nearly caused an ecological disaster, and most importantly you lied to me. Gimme your keys you're grounded for a week.

How do BOTH parents not EVER bother to ask what his experiments were? Or to be explained to and shown what they're about?! The incredible, total disinterest in everything about him is just so tragic ! ! ! They completely didn't care one bit about him!

This is the type of genius that needs careful guidance, not dismissal.

This story always bugs me. That kid COULD have been someone special, but he didnt get enough help to realize his potential. It's a shame.

"when he confided in his friend about the miniature Chernobyl disaster brewing in his back yard, his friend reminded him about control rods" ah, as you do as a typical angsty american teen. I remember these kinds of conversations in high school. Those were seriously the days.

I was laughing really hard imagining a kid just goofing off and shrugging like "oops my backyard reactor is going critical, better duck tape this shut"

This guy is a warning lesson taught in the navy nuclear school. When he signed up, he got tested like we all did at nuke school. He had already absorbed well over the safe lifetime exposure limit and wasn't eligible to work with navy reactors. It surely would have been a dream job to run and perform maintenance on those beast reactors
