  one of the Butkus stories told by Sly.<br>“When things got even worse, I had to sell [Butkus] for $40 in front of a 7-Eleven store, because I couldn’t afford food, then like a modern-day miracle, the screenplay for Rocky sold, and I could buy him back, but the new owner knew I was desperate, and charged me $15,000. He was worth every penny.”

  &quot;why are we running in Converse&quot; because those were pretty much the only sports orientated shoes at the time, it was either those or run in leather boots.

  Stallone still has the two turtles today. They&apos;re at least 50 years old.

  Yes, it&apos;s his dog. Long story short, he legit had to sell his dog to eat. He wrote this movie when he was homeless, living in his car. When he was pitching the script he had offers for it, but they didn&apos;t want him in the film (Sly Stallone), so he rejected the offers despite being homeles...essentially, he knew he needed to play the lead role. Eventually, he sold the script and they did accept him to play Rocky...he used some of the money to get his dog back and featured him in the film.

  You two really caught the most minute comedy in some legendary dialogue. &nbsp;The door scene was always a fav of mine.

  The perfect love story, disguised as a boxing movie.<br><br>e: The coins Apollo was throwing to the crowd were probably bicentennial Kennedy silver dollars.

  So many fun facts in this movie: <br> <br>* With only a little over $100 in the bank, Stallone was offered thousands and thousands of dollars to NOT play the part of Rocky but Stallone placed his reputation on the line and denied all money offered. In the end he was offered way less and took it. <br>* Stallone had wrote the first three Rocky films before the first movie was released. <br>* Before Taila Shire was casted as Adrian, she was known for as the daughter to Vito Corelone on The Godfather I &amp; II. <br>* The man singing at the corner with a group in the beginning of the movie is Sylvester Stallone&apos;s brother Frank. <br>* Butkus was actually Stallone&apos;s dog he had to give up to make ends meet. He would buy the dog back after the success of the movie. <br>* Burt Young who was casted as Paulie was actually a boxer during his time in the Marines and had a 32-2 personal record and had a 17-0 professional record. <br>* Burt Young shared the story how the crew only had one turkey for the movie, so there was someone on the other side of the door to catch it if they needed it for another take. <br>* Gazzo was played by Joe Spinell who would go on to be Godfather to Stallone&apos;s son. <br>* Before acting Carl Weathers who played Apollo Creed played two seasons as a linebacker for my Oooooakland Raiders 😃 <br>*Geno&apos;s cheesesteaks in Philly where Gazzo gave Rocky $500 is still up and running til this day. A plaque had been placed where the two stood. <br>*Diana Lewis who&apos;d played Diana Lloyd (The TV commentator) was an actual commentator. She retired from a news affiliate in Detroit after 44 years in the business. <br>* Joe Frazier was one of the best heavyweights of the 20th century who had a huge rival with another great, Muhammad Ali. They fought three times. Frazier gave Ali his first professional loss, but Ali would win the next two. <br>* The man who rang the bell during Balboa&apos;s and Creed&apos;s fight was Stallone&apos;s father, Frank Sr. <br>* With a budget of only a million dollars, &apos;Rocky&apos; would gross over $220 million at the box office and grab Best Picture at the 1977 Academy Awards, opening Stallone not only to write the sequel but to direct it. <br> <br>Going in watching the movie Rocky, many women thought it was your typical boxing movie when all along it was an underdog - love story and the character development between Rocky and Adrian, it was what Stallone wanted and it worked. This was why the movie &apos;Rocky&apos; is so beloved by both men and women. <br> <br>Enjoy the rest of the franchise!
