I just wanted to leave a comment and say how much I appreciated Sam bringing up the conversation about which men are the bad ones and how women shouldn’t have to suss them out. I really appreciated that you said that, because I’ve had experience with bad men and thankfully my brother or dad were there but they won’t always be and I appreciate that you brought it up so thoughtfully and so perfectly into the reaction.

I love this film, and I love the commentary. Thanks to you both :)

Oddly enough it was originally intended to be a dark cautionary tale about class and sex work in Los Angeles, it was re-conceived as a romantic comedy.

Maria, you were correct ... it was Cindy Crawford's "body" that was used with Julia's face photoshopped for the cover of the film. Also, Cindy & Richard were dating at the time. If I'm not mistaken, the beautiful red outfit that Vivian wears to attend the opera was also Cindy's body.

Even though the business that Vivian is in shouldn't be overlook per se, but it was clear the chemistry that Richard & Julia had in the film but also Julia & Hector.

The escargot scene was a blooper but the way the maitre d' catches it, they kept it in.

The scene where she comes back to the same store she was rudely dismissed from to rub the money they wont be making from her in their smug faces is so satisfying :)

The Beverly Wilshire is actually not on the corner of Beverly and Wilshire, it is a block over on the corner of Rodeo and Wilshire. And Rodeo is loaded with expensive shops.

One of the most bizarre things I ever saw on Rodeo was all these women in the expensive outfits rushing out to see Ho ey Boo Boo and her mom, who was wearing sweatpants, walking down the street. (They were on the Toddlers and Tara's reality show at the time.)

When Richard Gete shuts on the box on her, her reaction was real as that was an adlib.

Garry Marshall likes to use Larry Miller for make-over scenes.

The book is "Longman Guide to Shakespeare Quotations."

And the funny thing about that scene in the high end shop, so often that's just he the people who can afford will not show up to shop dressed to the nines. They'll show up dressed down, like jeans and a tee maybe with a blazer or light-weight jacket, not a three-piece power suit or cocktail dress.

I always thought that they should’ve edited the conversation about how much it would be for the night. Why would she say $300 for the night if she was charging $100 an hour???? Make it make sense!!!😯😆😲
