I just posted the full ADHD research on Patreon. There's a 1798 text that was buried for 200 years and a military paper you probably shouldn't be reading. Go check it out: https://www.patreon.com/BetterU

Hyper focus isn’t always a “super power” it’s often all-consuming and comes at the cost of other important things like eating, hygiene, exercise, or even relationships. Not to mention, being extremely focused on a task doesn’t mean you have more mental energy than anyone else, you still get drained and fast. Once you stop working on the task is when you actually feel it and potentially even feel guilt over not prioritizing other things. I’m not going to sit here and say I wish I was different but sometimes it’s hard when people don’t understand you.

As someone with severe ADHD, this entirely correct. I’m a mechanic for work, I found it hard and extremely stressful to do my job even though I loved cars and the industry. Putting myself under constant urgency to get something done just to motivate myself to do my job was taking a huge toll on me and everything in my life, and I mean everything. My work, my relationships, my hobbies, my emotions, everything was not in a good spot. I went to therapy for what I thought was an anger management issue and after 2 years of therapy my therapist said to me “I don’t think you actually have an anger management issue. You have extremely severe ADHD and it’s not handled at all and it’s causing a boil over in anxiety which men tend to turn to anger as a second emotion.” I immediately took the necessary steps to get better. I went to the gym, I started a very low dose of medication for my ADHD. And I educated myself about how my brain actually works.
I’m now a factory trained BMW technician and one of the top performing techs in my shop

    I do learn quickly, yes.

The issue is that what I'm interested in never happens to be useful in terms of making a career or a profitable hobby out of it.

Issue with ADHD is the focus is only truly activated when your actually interested.
It's like pulling nails to study for my medical boards, but then I'll go on a 7 hour binge learning every exact detail of every battle of the punic wars in my free time, purely because it's interesting too me.

Disability is DEFINED by environment. Doctor here. The fact that we call something a "disorder" doesn't mean there is anything 'wrong' with you, just that things aren't working out compared to the 'typical'. Environment is EVERYTHING!
