I love how you put the question mark over my profile picture's face to keep the suspense. Thank you for including me in your 100th video. I am honored to be your friend and excited to be part of this video.

Not only is this the D&D superhero team we wanted, but it is also the D&D superhero team we deserve.

I'm an old school gamer that started in 1981. I left the hobby in 1998 and didn't comeback until 2020 during the pandemic. Since then, I have gotten my wife and two grown children into the hobby and have started a second campaign with work friends. While I came back to 5E, I have since moved on to DCC, which I love. I'm a worldbuilder and I'm so glad I found your channel because I find your videos on D&D history inspiring. It sounds like you and I have similar stories with regards to D&D, and like you, I have quite a collection of old TSR books that I still love. Keep doing what you are doing Martin, because you are not only sharing the history of this great game and hobby to a new generation, but also entertaining us old gamers who look with nostalgia on the past. Your long form videos are my favorite and I look forward each week to see what you talk about next. Great job and thanks for all the hard work and effort you put into this channel and its excellent videos.

I'm a simple man: I see a new Martin video, I click the Like button. Hoping to see some love here for L1 Secret of Bone Hill, it's a personal favorite of mine.

I have been buying up old vintage modules lately so this is greatly appreciated! Your channel started right when I started getting into vintage D&D and you have already helped me navigate getting into collecting again.

One thing I really like about your content is that it’s one long form video I can click on and listen to, instead of like 20 short form videos a week. Both have their place, but I prefer the long form.

I started playing during Christmas break from school in 1978/79. My best friend received a Basic D&D Boxed Set (Holmes' edition) from his grandparents and he convinced his dad to be our DM. As a result, my #5 most favorite module is the very first adventure I ever went on. As an eight-year old avid reader who loved Tolkien, CS Lewis, Burroughs, Howard, Lovecraft, Doc Smith, Van Vogt, etc. D&D exploded my imagination. I could not consume enough of it.

My top five are:
#5 B1 In Search of the Unknown. I think most of us would agree its not the greatest example of good writing, but it was the first adventure I ever went on and when I graduated to DMing, it taught me how. All the undeveloped areas of the map encouraged creativity. I am fairly sure I ran this even more times than Borderlands. For the nostalgia alone, I have to include this on my list.

#4 X1 Isle of Dread. I mean, com'on, DINOSAURS! As a huge fan of Victorian-age "lost worlds," this one really got me excited. I remember rereading all the old books by Burroughs, Swift, Doyle, etc. and rewatching films like Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Land that Time Forgot, and especially Jason and the Argonauts for more inspiration. I loved that it was essentially self-contained so what happened on the island did not impact the rest of the campaign setting and conflict with any published lore. It could drop it into whatever setting I was running (Mystara, Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, etc).

#3 A1-4 Slave Lords. Okay, I know I cheated here but this four-part series was fantastic. I ran this series almost as many times as Borderlands. For me this was the first "adventure path" because I expanded the content to include some intro content to get the PCs up to the appropriate level and then post-conclusion content to expand on the slaver's network and make it a more global (or at least continental) conspiracy. Later, I used it as the impetus of the Greyhawk Wars.

#2 B2 Keep on the Borderlands. Sure, this is on everyone's list. It was one of the original modules at a time when there wasn't a lot of content so most of us played and DM'd it numerous times. It was an especially great starting point for a larger campaign if you took advantage of the blocked passage (area 51 "Boulder Filled Passage") to lead to other areas.

#1 The Village of Hommlet. This is easily my favorite old skool TSR module, not only because the moathouse was fantastic, but because I loved the village. The NPCs were interesting and Rufus/Burne made for excellent mentors to young adventurers and sources of rumors and information. I agree with most others that while Temple of Elemental Evil is iconic and had a few memorable moments, it was not a great module, but the village was excellent. Many of my groups repaired the moathouse once they had cleared it and used it as their homebase. Its location in the central Flanaess and proximity to the Free City of Greyhawk meant it could serve as the launching point for virtually any published material.

Honorable Mention #1. While technically not a module because it was contained inside the rulebooks, the adventure in the Player's Manual that continued in the Dungeon Master's Rulebook from the BECMI "red box" edition was fantastic. The solo portion in the Player's Handbook followed the 'endless quest' format so you could play it by yourself and get a feel for the game system. Then you could get a group together and search for Bargle in the ruins of Gygar's Castle to avenge Aleena. This is perhaps the best intro in all of the various D&D editions and 3PP RPGs.

Honorable Mention #2. The Mud Sorcerer's Tomb. I know, its not from the "classic" era of TSR and technically not a module, but this adventure is one of the best ever published. No discussion of the 'best of' can be had without it making an appearance. It was in Dungeon magazine #37 which is arguably the best issue.

Jim Holloway often portrays the same group of adventurers throughout any given module, gives a nice sense of continuity.

And being Jim Holloway, they're usually doing real adventurer things like getting into amusing trouble for massively unwise decisions.
