I have news for Justin Welby. Forgiveness does not come from Justin Welby. John Smyth is dead and buried, so he can no longer be forgiven, by you or anyone else! Welby needs to ask forgiveness from the families he has let down! Forgiveness only works in tandem with repentance, which if anything needs to come first!

Its not just the church or even primarily the church. Higher rates of abuse take place outside of the church. Abuse takes place everywhere and anywhere.

Why do abusers get away with it? a) their victims fee ashamed and so keep quiet and b) people who know don't want their workplaces reputations destroyed.

Welby is in no position to forgive. He is the lowest of the low. The detritus of mankind. He did nothing when he knew first of this abuse. In short he condoned it. That makes him just as bad as the perpetrator!
