  You don't have to apologize for getting into a rant after this movie. That's the point. Movies like this matter because they start those conversations. They parallel parts of the real world that we'd prefer to ignore, but we need to be reminded of them and we need to talk about them.

  I love that you called rue a little angel, cause in the book katniss frequently talks about how rue stands with her arms behind her as if she might take flight. And her interview dress even had wings sewn in.

  Your discussion was spot on. Unchecked power through violence and intimidation. The Hunger Games series is not a young adult series or a romance. There is no love triangle. You need three people involved for a triangle. Katniss has no interest in dating. All of Katniss’ energy is focused on survival, absolutely not what boy is interested in her at any given time. This series never avoids the cruelty and lack of empathy. Katniss’ super power is her compassion. The Capital is focused on fostering division among the districts. If the districts don’t trust each other they won’t rise against the capital. Very relevant today.

  One way that that society accepted the horrific atrocities was to keep each of the districts absolutely separated from eachother, without even communication, and in competition with one another. Divide and conquer.

  Just to clear it up. People volunteer every year from the career districts. They train until they are in their last year and then they volunteer. Katniss was the first volunteer from district 12 not the first volunteer ever.
