For once a movie based on Dracula has an accurate depiction of 19th century Transylvania (at the time part of Hungary). Clothing, music, languages, religious practices, its all perfectly accurate. The reason the naked woman was on horse is because an old Romanian superstition says that a horse with young virgin woman on it would not pass a vampire's grave, so they were not trying to sacrifice her but were using her to detect a vampire. In old eastern European folklore vampires are not sexy misunderstood romantic partners, they are evil living corpses that must be destroyed with no exception. In some folktales they are no different from werewolves as they also transform in wolves. Also, nosferatu is a corrupt version of ancient greek term "nosoforos" which means disease bringer, which is exactly what vampires in old stories do, they bring diseases like real corpses but worse. Another fact : Orlok is speaking and casting spells in Dacian, an extinct language once spoken by Dacian people in what is now Romania since ancient times, like when the Romans ruled there (that is why Romanian sounds like latin, it came from latin). Dacian went extinct around 500 AD and very little is preserved, mostly names of places and plants, so this is a probable reconstruction made by an actual expert for ancient languages at Bucharest university.

14:38 Because it is filmed by the same director: Robert eggers. He Directed the VVITCH and Nosferatu.

A brazilian movie criticist defined this movie perfectly for me: it reunites all of the other Robert Eggers' movie in one, but still unique. It has the commerciality of Northman( since we have themes such as possession, which are common in horror industry); it has the asethetics and theatrical freedom of The Lighthouse; and it has the intimate exploration of the human mind and psychology, which are main themes on The VVitch

5:07 Thomas wasn't dismissive of her dreams and fears out of malice, her doctor told them her "fancies" are just ridiculous imagination (doctors of the good old days) and should not be further indulged with. Also, no matter how much she might have asked him to stay or how much he didn't wish to leave, they did not have enough money for him to loose a job. Notice what a grand house she lived in as a teenager? Her father probably disowned her when she married poor Thomas out of love.

Among a cast of legends, Lily Depp stood out fantastically

When you think of Ellen´s story and frame it as an SA victim, groomed from childhood, reclaiming her voice and trapping/defeating the abuser with his own weaknesses...
Also, that scene when she is possessed and begins taunting Thomas, all while fighting against Orlok´s influence, only for Thomas to break free and actually comforting her with "Its me. I would never hurt you"😭

Orlok is terrifying because unlike many portrayals of Dracula, he’s perfectly accepting of what he is. He knows he’s a loathsome monster controlled by his appetites and that doesn’t bother him. For me, Orlok represents exactly what I think vampires should be: cruel, sadistic, bloodthirsty demons that kill without discrimination. Creatures whose only comprehension of love is that of dominance and possession. Even his feelings for Ellen are little more than hunger in nature.

The original 1920's "Nosferatu" was sued by Bram Stoker's estate. (He wrote the original "Dracula") They said that the movie was to close to the novel.
They settled out of court.
The end of this movie reminds me in a way of the end of "Midnight Mass". Kate Segal is "feeding the vampire, and pulled him in close. (She sliced up his wings so he couldn't fly to safety)
