Every time I think I’ve heard of every mountain mass casualty event, something like this always shows up

If they were all that "experienced": If a storm is forcast, you park your butt in the hut! Period. RIP 🙏

I aint no expert but if the route takes 1 hour to get to the hut, at most 2 hours. but if your half a day in and you havent reached it. It means you did something wrong and need to go back and retrace your steps. At most turn back. Over confidence and under prepareness kills. In this case it was over confidence in the expertice.

This is such a sad story. It seems so strange to me that a person can be so attracted to something that takes so much away from them.

The survivers where first spotted by well known mountaineer Conrad Anker who guided a small group in this area. He allerted rescue services and had taken the same route but made it before the bad weather rolled in. He prepared by going a part of the route the afternoon before and mapping it on his gps device so he would find the hut even in bad weather which was exactly what happend. So it is very clear that Mario had'nt prepared properly and was definetly careless
