A friend of mine was a psych ward nurse for 15 years. She said the mistake society often makes is equating insanity with being stupid. <br><br>She described incredibly intelligent patients who actually told her they knew what to do to get out of psych hold. Because a person’s reality is warped doesn’t mean they’re dumb or unaware. They know what they’re doing, but in their delusions it’s justified.

Insanity as a defense is overused. When you have someone who is dedicated to killing those who he is obsessed with, I believe that person is a prime candidate for capital punishment. When you lose someone to murder, you can understand why capital punishment is fitting in some cases. I believe that it is the only solution for serial killers.
