About socks. One piece of advice from a trail runner that's also done The French Way: If you can mentally coupe with wearing socks that has toes on them, like Injinji socks, they'll save you alot of chafing and blisters in between the toes. Also, putting vaseline on the toes each morning will help alot against blisters as it reduces overall friction on the feet.

We were in Barcelona and someone stole my wife's purse with her passport, phone, credit cards and such. We planned for this by having pictures of everything on each other's cell phones. We were able to get a temporary passport within 24 hours and knew what accounts we needed to cancel. It was an inconvenience but not a major problem.

Thank you for this. "What if" anxiety packing is a real thing for me.

Thanks for the tips. I would also take a head torch for those early morning starts. It looks dark there at 5am and it also looks like it can be hard to find the arrows getting out of towns.

Hi Ricky. Not sure if you remember me..... we met on the Frances in 2022 in a very hippy old fashioned albergue where all the bunks seemed to be made out of tree trunks and we all ate on a big table in the garden.
Your gear has certainly upgraded since then 😉
That was for my 60th birthday and now I am starting preparation for my next big walk to do the via francigena to Rome for my 65th. I just realised that it has my initials 👌 Big hug from Valerie in the South of France xx

I did lose my passport (US passport) on the Camino in 2024 and had to divert to Madrid to get an emergency passport. Important to note if you’re an American, you need another source of photo ID at embassy so bring driver’s license and a credit card.

If you get blisters between your toes it just means either your nails grew too long or the toebox of your shoes is too narrow and doesn't give your toes the right amount of space to spread naturally.

I carried a 6.5 kilo pack excluding water and food. I quickly found out that apples and bananas are HEAVY. I ate those quickly if I carried them for snacks. I’d take a sleep sack instead of a sleeping bag and not take a power bank either.
