  Replacing ELEVEN locks with one giant rotating wheel is such an absurdly Scottish engineering solution 😂 The best bit is how something this enormous can move boats while looking almost effortless. I love places where the engineering becomes part of the attraction itself. That is exactly the sort of unexpected detail I’m always hunting for when exploring places on my own channel!

  Aquaduct! They were one of the things the Romans did for us.<br><br>I&apos;ve been at the front of the boat. On the way down you get a great view. It&apos;s like an infinity pool.<br><br>At the western end of the F&amp;C canal, in Dalmuir, there is the world&apos;s only drop lock. There had been a lifting bridge but when they reopened the canal the road had got a bit busy. The drop lock lowers the canal to go under the road.

  How come Falkirk gets funding for this amazing bit of infrastructure on a relatively obscure bit of canal, when the Foxton inclined plain - arguably far more vital - gets nothing? &nbsp;I know Foxton has functioning locks so its not totally comparable, but still...
