  In this game German faced Mikhail Maistrovskiy, who has a rating of 2046, a 366 points higher rating than Germans. That he lost the game is therefore not surprising but it’s clear how much this match meant to him. German fought hard and sometimes he had to wait several minutes for his opponent’s moves, a challenge for any player, especially a child. The mental effort, patience, and concentration required for a game like this are enormous. It’s no wonder he looked exhausted and worn out at times. <br> <br>His tears at the end are not a sign of weakness, but a reflection of how much energy and heart he put into the game. They come from a mix of disappointment, fatigue from the long battle and above all: passion. In chess, as in any sport, emotions are part of the game. Showing them proves how seriously he takes it. Even more impressively, the engine rates his performance at 2150; a fantastic achievement compared to his current rating of 1680 in this discipline. <br> <br>A few words about the game itself:<br><br>Mikhail opened with d4 and c4 and quickly developed his pieces with Nc3, Nf3, and Be3, while German responded with the Old Benoni Defense, setting up solid central and queenside counterplay. Mikhail then pushed f4 to launch a kingside attack and German replied energetically with g5.<br><br>The game heated up when the queens came off on h6/f8, opening the board for some endgame action. Mikhail’s knight found a perfect central post, while g6 and h4 increased the pressure on the black king. German’s pieces remained passive, his king was exposed, and the d6 passed pawn became a decisive weapon. With sharp, precise moves, Mikhail kept the momentum, forced Germans king back, and converted his advantages into a clean win.
