I stopped wearing gloves several years ago. The pro's follow my lead. Soon they will be fat and slow too.

I have never fallen and hit my head while cycling but I still wear a helmet on every ride. The risk of tearing up my palms in a fall isn't worth it so I wear gloves. Plus the extra padding adds comfort to my hands on longer rides.

Gloves provide extra padding, sun protection, no skinned hands during a fall, good for mopping up brow sweat. Been wearing them so long, if I fail to bring them I get the same feeling like not wearing a seat belt. So many pros.

My daughter in law is a Surgeon and has spent time in A&E and Plastics. She insists I wear gloves when I use my bikes and motorbikes. I always do following her description of the "de-gloving" affect of friction of road on skin. It simply pulls it off - de-gloves the skin from the underlying tissue beneath. The photos are horrific. Wear your gloves folks!

I am very sweaty. So I slip all over the bars when I'm working hard. I literally never wore gloves on the bike. One day i put together that my hand numbness was largely coming from the fact that i had to grip the bars so tightly to keep from slipping everywhere. Wore gloves with some grip, hand numbness basically went away and allowed me to relax instead of death gripping the bike

In Alabama the humidity is so high that I need gloves to keep a solid grip on the bars.

I once crashed in a race going at considerable speed, slid on my hip for a while before deciding to roll over and lift myself up onto the side of my shoes and the pads of my gloves, wrecked the gear but worth not loosing more skin. I will always wear gloves.

I never "plan" on crashing, but it can happen anytime, so I wear gloves everytime.

Besides impact and road rash protection, after 2 bouts of melanoma I wear gloves to protect my exposed skin from being sun ravaged. Plus, it keeps my hands warmer when fighting a cool headwind.
