  I am a black, American man. As such I found that I had to leave the church altogether. I grew up Christian and I went to church at least 4 times a week, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and played piano for the church. I was completely married to Christianity and the community of the black church. I was one of the few that never was able to accept the teachings in my heart because of the consistent evidence against those teachings that I found in the behavior of so called Christians. When I went to college I took a class in world religions because I was searching for a true religion. I never found it. I think that after all there is no "true" religion. There is only the world and the choices we make. How we treat others is who we are. If we want love and peace then we must live that way in our relationships to everyone and everything. God, as far as I have found, doesn't exist. There is a metaphysical aspect of life. But the world is based on the physical. We must find the metaphysical through relationship and introspection. That is the same place we must find and maintain morality. There is no code or checklist of do and don't. There is only how I behave with others in every choice that I make. How I do anything is how I do everything. If so-called Christians allowed that to guide their lives they'd solve the problems of Christian morality and find something closer to the truth of existence.

  Totally agree 👍 Protestant work ethic is dressed up capitalism in religious clothes. It rewards the rich and despises the poor, creating conditions for Christian pity / charity for the wretched. What about justice and compassion for the disadvantaged?

  When I was young, I remember sitting in church, thinking about how hypocritical and pretentious everyone was. I left early, looked out across the countryside, and saw two cows copulating. I couldn’t help but think that was the most honest thing I had experienced all day. I've never forgotten that day.
