I agree silent hill 3 was more tense and "scarier" than 2. However the floating "ghosts" in 4 chasing you and forcing you to run like a nob into more danger is grab you by the nutz terrifying. Fatal frame is king in my eyes and I used it to cure my fear of the dark by playing the whole thing in the dark. It worked and I haven't looked back since.

To be fair the plot of SH3 is just as dark as Haunting Grounds.

Heather/Cheryl is forced into an unwanted teenage pregnancy and the end is forcing it to be aborted and someone eating the fetus to give birth to it.

There's a ton, but Silent Hill 2 probably takes the cake.

Glad to see Haunting Ground made the list. You know there was a costume unlock simply titled not safe for work. All leather and such.

There is a Scissor Man (and Woman) in Clock Tower 3, he's just not the same hunchback demon we had in the original couple games. Scissor Man is now very flamboyant Asian stage actor/fighter/acrobat who chases you with a pair of swords he combines into scissors.

Chainsaws scare the efffff out of me. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the first Horror Movie I saw and playing RE4 took me straight back..

Project Zero 3 (Fatal Frame 3) was my introduction to the series a man I was not ready for it. After getting over my fear I fell in love with the series.

I hate to say it, but Haunting Ground really didn't hit for me. The beginning is great, very atmospheric, but it quickly becomes formulaic. Stalker > Run > Puzzle > Repeat. It's worth a play, but not the $500 premium for a physical copy 🤷
