  I agree that it&apos;s entirely fair to compare the two with the assumption that a player wouldn&apos;t necessarily have played the other first. <br>If I would have been at the skill-level that I were when I started playing Hollow Knight, I would have struggled SO BAD with Moss Mother. <br><br>In my opinion Moss Mother comes too early in the game, acting as a hard-gate to any form of further progression. As you pointed out, none of the other tutorial enemies really teaches you the appropriate method to combat her (Pogo-ing). If you strike her head-on when she does her swooping attack you&apos;ll take damage. You&apos;re clearly intended to jump above her when she swoops low. And if you attack her when she idles in the air you will, as you pointed out, put yourself at great risk of being struck by her next attack due to the telegraph being relatively short, and lacking any tools to react quickly while in the air. Adding her ability to summon adds that blocks-off floor-space and moves around, until you&apos;ve diverted you attention away from the main boss and dealt with the spawned minion, would have overwhelmed me if I would have been a new player who played Silksong first. A completely new player would likely have just started getting a grasp of the basic controls by the time they&apos;d be tasked with combating an honestly rather complex boss-enemy.

  It seems like false knight is a pop quiz that the teacher was preparing you for without you knowing. While moss mother is a test that is a lesson, it checks if your good enough to continue like a test while also teaching you what you will see in future tests

  My personal outtake from this video is that False Knight is a novel bossfight for a somewhat experimental indie game, Moss Mother is a more &quot;by the book&quot; bossfight which can make her slightly forgettable

  I&apos;m not sure that Moss Mother and False Knight are a fair comparison. To me, Moss Mother is equivalent to Gruz Mother from HK. And it&apos;s not just because of their name, the design of their fights is quite similar as well - they are both a slow flying (mini)boss with a predictable pattern that spawns little minions. It&apos;s like if the put Gruz Mother just in front of the big door before Dirtmouth, which would have probably been fine.<br>I think the Silksong equivalent to False Knight is a different boss which I don&apos;t want to spoil, but I think most people fight it after a similar amount of playtime.

  I think the enemies in the moss grotto do a good job of showing new players that most enemies and bosses will have a &apos;wind up&apos; telegraph before they attack. <br><br>This is something that I think was a bit less obvious in hollow knight due to the large number of enemies in the starting areas that just move back and forth or constantly float towards you, whereas in the moss grotto 2 out of the 3 enemy types have a clear telegraph.

  My opinion is that False knight is a better bossFIGHT, and Moss Mother is a better boss. It is also important to consider that Moss Mother is PART of the tutorial, not after it like False Knight. Moss Mother shows clearly: later bosses may have summoned minions, short telegraphs, some may fly, and finally, clearly set a skill floor. False Knight is a skill CHECK, not a boss showcase. While he does show certain new things, most of the things he would&apos;ve taught are taught by normal enemies before him, like you showed.

  I won&apos;t speak from a gameplay perspective (this video covers it all already), but I think defeating the False Knight feels more badass than defeating the Moss Mother. FK has a cooler design and is more intimidating in appearance and moveset. Meanwhile, MM is just kinda too tame. She gets the job done, but it doesn&apos;t quite get the blood pumping.

  I fought brooding mawlek before false knight in my original blind playtrough because i&apos;m a massochist, and then for my steel soul run, i did it again

  The moss mother seems like a tutorial on the new down attack for players that try to attack while in the air.

  I think the moss mother was placed this early just for there to be a boss in the demo. Without it moss grotto wouldn’t be a good demo area, just some easy platforming and a few enemies

  I haven&apos;t played Hollow knight but I beat Moss Mother on my first attempt so I think difficulty wise it&apos;s good for a first time player (tho it doesn&apos;t introduce you to the fact that you&apos;re going to be utterly destroyed for the rest of the game). Also maybe I didn&apos;t understand what you meant but you can easily attack her with upward attacks when she&apos;s flying and that doesn&apos;t put you at risk.
