I read I am that after I had already been a seeker for several years and had done a lot of spiritual reading. It hit me like a 2 by 4 across my forehead. It didn’t create an immediate awakening, but it seemed to clearly state and help me to realize That I already was what I have been searching for. It led to a profound awakening a few years later.

I had the same experience as Adya. Then when I met Adya I had a sudden awareness that his message and gift could not come from words, so I stopped listening and just looked into his eyes for the whole talk and someting unspeakable occurred beyond words. Then I asked him what happened, he said that I experienced a direct Silent Transmision. At that time I was not sure what he ment but I trusted in time it would unfold when I was ready over the next few years, and it Did! The Truth is beyond words. And Nasergadata actually says that in I Am That ! Being willing and honest is all you need .

I found this book when I was at a bookstore looking for Ramana Maharishi’s booklet “who am I “but they didn’t have any, I saw big yellow letters on the shelf saying “ I AM THAT”
Seemed quite profound searching for a self inquiry who am I to finding a book that states I am that
Both teachers are incredible in the simplicity without word fluff and dogma.
I’m grateful of both teachers
Their teachings feel like an old friend.
It’s really is very experiential like you stated, simple yet so profound.

I listened to I am that on on YouTube and went into a state of euphoria without fully understanding what he was saying. So I studied his teaching. Several years later the mind goes still without effort. When there is movement (involuntary thoughts) they are distant. The peace, serenity (that was always there without me knowing) is my daily experience now. From a life of rage, fear, worry etc to this is pricess

My teacher Ramesh Balsekar was a devotee of Nisargadatta Maharaj . His teachings are very clear. The only truth is an impersonal sense of I am everything else is a concept. His emphasis was on peace of mind in daily living. He and his devotee Gautam Sachdeva have many hours of teachings on you tube. Ramesh passed in 2009 but Gautam is still alive and well (June 2024).

I AM is the primary illusion. - Nisargadatta

My teacher Sailor Bob Adamson was a student of Nisargardatta and recognized his true nature with him in 1976. Bob (and the community in his meeting) have made understanding Nisargardatta simple.
