Fischer, known for being aggressive: "To take is a mistake."<br>Capablanca, known for being defensive: "Attack Pawns."

1. Activate everything — Develop your least active piece.<br>2. Keep everything defended — Leave no weaknesses; Don't blunder<br>3. Always ask yourself; What is the opponent trying to do?<br>4. Attack weak pawns, they're easy targets.<br>5. You win endgames using passed pawns, they get more powerful the more simplified the game is.

I feel like Capablanca is the guy to study for at least 95% of chess players wanting to improve. When I play simple positional chess and play for material, following simple principles and avoiding mistakes and blunders, I win substantially more games than when I try to look for deep tactics.

I am winning more chess games sticking with Capablanca chess principles. I am married with a family. I do not have more than a half hour a day to "study chess". I do about ten minutes a day of puzzles. I play a 15/10 game online. I also learn to play through the moves of "legendary" games. from memory. It's working. Igor Smirnov and his system of the Capablanca principles kill for "serious" hobby players who just want to enjoy playing chess. I also am spending time working on my calculation skills - how quickly I can calculate is allowing me to learn to go slow on the Capablanca style. No blunders is the goal. Not amazing combinations. Eventually your opponent seems to make an unforced error and then , only then, are you ready to plan and maybe unleash an attack . I also study rook and pawn endgames at least once a week. Nothing like pushing a passed pawn onto becoming a queen on the board of chess pieces in the endgame. Thanks Igor and your team. You have brought much joy to my chess playing.

I'm probably around ELO 1000 (mostly playing computer) and after playing several games where I blundered, I have decided that my big problem was being in too much of hurry to attack. I was focused on winning material, often using a hit and run method. I wasn't developing my pieces enough, and was trying to attack with too few pieces. So, for many people, slow down and don't try to win material right away. With good position, you will eventually have plenty of opportunity to attack.

This was one of the first games my coach ever took me through in a lesson: SO BEAUTIFUL! I love this kind of simple, effective playing.

Thanks Igor, I love going through these classical games. The positional masters like Capa, Petrosian, and Karpov just make chess look so effortless.
