I luv retirement too! Since I retired in May 2026, I got back my health! Focused on my diet and exercise, lost the 14 lbs I had put on over the 5.5 years I racked up during my last job. I feel great. Intermittent fasting is so much easier when u control 100% of your time in retirement!

Retired RN here. My aha moment came when two doctors pissed me off while I was pumping blood into multiple gunshot wound patient . I worked in an SICU ,my former employer is a county/teaching hospital, part of state retirement system.
So I consider myself fortunate that I have a good pension. The only thing that would make the pension sweeter is had they changed our classification to special risk. I pulled the plug at 55 , unclaimed, pension . That was 12 1/2 years ago of which I then claimed Social Security at 62. I have a child who’s a minor so there the dependent benefit for my child. i’m not wealthy, but I’m financially comfortable able to meet my financial obligations with some financial room to spare.

In my opinion, a person should Retire when it’s good for them. Everyone’s life is different and not everyone wants the same thing and not everyone is miserable with the work they still choose to do!

As one woman in the video eluded to, there are some disadvantages to taking SS at 62. One, you have to cover the health care insurance gap until you are required to take Medicare at 65. Two, you get less money per month. Three, when there is a COLA increase, your increase in smaller because your base amount is smaller. Whatever the case, we are all rolling the dice on our expected life span. Do what makes you happy and what you can afford.

One man in the video says you will know when it's time to retire. The "A-HA" moment will arrive, often out of thin air, unexpectedly. Mine arrived when my job was no longer fun, not mentally stimulating, and I began to loathe several people in my workplace. I realized they were-egotistical, insecure, back-stabbing cretins. I got tired of me doing the work, and THEM getting the accolades. They were coasting, and I was fed up. Good riddance. I don't even think of that place anymore!

I think before the forever war BS started. Donald and Co. were looking at lowering the Medicare age to 62.
Forget now of that happening

To have an chance of a good retirement is to have house PAID OFF. You still need a vechile. A PAID OFF ONE is the goal
One gentlemen was frustrated about the age 65 to retire. Back in the 70s - 90s you had a 30 yr mortgage in your mid 30s. So house paid off bail from the BS a d start a real life.

what happens when you didn't have a career job or a job to retire from after 20 yrs? That means you are not preparded financially to retire without hardship. Means you have to keep working till you can maximize your SS and if lucky have no debt and a paid home (Although that is no caveat nowdays with the insane property taxes now)
