Do y'all prefer the longer format from this video or the shorter format from last weeks repair with the Retron Sq?
Oh yeah- We have a discord now if you're into that kind of thing: https://discord.com/invite/RJkbsfN3nE

In my 35 years working on cars I have seen a number of seasoned Techs take cars apart and dissect wiring harnesses and replace parts looking for a problem when the whole time it was a power or ground issue. Electronics 101 check power and ground first.

I’m sitting here the whole time screaming at the screen to go back to the “that’s weird” power connector. It was one of the first things you noticed and the last thing you checked. Been there. Thanks for sharing!

    A couple of notes.

1. Get some good flux paste in a syringe. You’re burning off the liquid flux before you’re done soldering.

2. Before you try to remove solder, add new fresh leaded solder. It will improve the chemistry and make it easier to remove.

3. The N64 power supply (OEM, I’m not sure on third-party) has a resettable fuse. If you have a short it’ll blow the fuse but removing the power adapter from console for about 30s will reset the fuse.

This was very interesting, informative and entertaining too. I LOVE that you keep in all the little mistakes or potential mistakes and you speaking your questions out loud. Its authentic. Great stuff, subbed.

Brilliant video, very very very satisfying to watch and the mystery of solving that problem in my favourite console ever I've just subscribed. Keep up the amazing work man, I'll check your other videos out when i get some free time next. Much love to you bro 👍🏻💯💯💯

That's the first thing I do when people complain their N64 won't work. I put contact cleaner on those damn power pins. It works 90% of the time. Even as an owner of the console as a kid I got so fed up with that stupid power brick I just left it in the console for like 20 years because it was so finnicky. I couldn't imagine how bad aftermarket bricks are.

Just gonna mention if anyone reads this. When you are screwing something into a plastic, turn the screw counter clockwise til you hear a small click, then start screwing it clockwise.

This was a great video. I made a few comments during my time it took me to finally compete it.
I will say, you learn more each day right?

Before plugging in a power supply to a N64, check the connector on it first. Ok yep lesson learned.

However, you should use a multimeter to check and make sure on the N64 that none of the power rails have a short to ground as well. That way you dont potentially ruin a good power supply by shorting it out.

Very good video man. Loved it. Simply because it isnt like onenof these videos where you see people got straight to the fault and fix it then it works. You had to work it out. And you did that on video. Makes it way more interesting.
And whats even better is. If a video ever goes into a part 2 etc. You can use suggestions from the comments section to further test theory on a project.

Im glad I ran across this channel.

Man that is so funny, I have worked in IT staring at systems that don't work for hours just to find out that it was something super simple.
You don't even know how to feel in the moment.
This was great though and I'm gonna try and remember for when I next fix something, keep it up.

    - Get a hair dryer and everthing will be dry in 10 minutes.
- You can also use the hair dryer to preheat the board. Then the desoldering of components will be much easier. Or use a hot air gun.
