Thanks for posting! I worked for Jim Hansen at NASA GISS in the early 80s. I received a Ph.D. in atmospheric science. I've been out of the field professionally for some time bit still read the scientific Journals. Jim is understandably frustrated that there has been little action to address this planetary emergency.

I remember listening to Hansen's famous address to congress in 1988. I was 22 at the time. I found Hansen's presentation so concerning that I went to my father to ask him what to make of it. He hadn't heard Hansen's address - knew nothing of global warming or climate change and after I explained the gist of what Hansen had said he asked me when these profound changes would occur. I told him 50 years and he smirked with incredulity and guffawed "Pfft...50 years?"as if I had said 50 million.

Goobie your videos are amazing for my mental health. You are a wonderful person to listen to and it grounds me to know there are people like you thinking about these matters. I struggle with finding my place in society, even more so since I am concerned about the future. These videos really help! Thank you for being here and I'm glad to have found your channel!

I love how you are doing this. Showing us that vulnerability is OK. You do a lot of hiking, but can still get it "wrong", so you admit that and retrace your footsteps. Unlike our species, charging blindly down the wrong trail! Also, the beauty of the scenery is both calming and inspiring - stopping us from going to the dark angry miserable places in our heads, and gently reminding us there is something bigger than ourselves that is worth cherishing - the irreplaceable natural world. There is a narrative thread here, too, to earlier videos where you discuss how your federal government is unwilling to meet its responsibilities to maintain national parks - roads washing away, bridges failing. Tree-trunks left fallen across the trails is another similar sign of neglect.

casually sharing that you were top 5 in the US chemistry Olympiad is insane

I feel like you are teaching two big lessons in this video. One, the message which you are speaking about - climate change. The second lesson is about remaining present, and appreciating the world around us. Normally hearing this kind of information would make me feel like everyday life is insignificant in the face of this huge problem, but then I see you walking in nature and showing love to your doggy and I see that is also significant. Thank you

Thank you for your videos, Goobie. I had reached much of the same conclusions as you for these last few years but began to doubt myself because nobody around me seems to think we're headed off a cliff. Your videos are very reaffirming to trust the facts and logic I see in front of me.

Another "brake" solution is planting layers of greenery in residential areas. Layers being trees, shrubs, herbs that can produce food/medicine for people. There are estimated 40 million acres of lawn in the united states alone, making turf grass the largest irrigated "crop" in the country. Instead we could plant valuable and low-upkeep plants to create shade, cycle more carbon, and cool the air.
