  We really need to bring back shame. People are getting WAYYYY too comfortable being their "true selves" in public. The "book tok girlies" should be ashamed of themselves.

  i work in a library. the amount of times i’ve heard people say “i won’t read it if it’s not spicy” is wild. it’s become an addiction for people. it’s also getting so mainstream that i have had EIGHT YEAR OLDS coming to me asking if they can borrow Lights Out or Icebreaker because they saw it on tiktok… iykyk and you know why that’s an INSANE request to get from a CHILD

  So society calls it "bad" for men to like Sydney Sweeney's sports ad for "sexualizing the world of womens' sports". But they'll happily go to an amusement park to get catcalled by a group of guys in full makeup and fake abs? To quote a certain animated meercat, "AM I MISSING SOMETHING!?"

  The worst part about this is the fact that the literal book porn is being advertised for literal teenagers. YA is supposed to be for 12 to 18 year olds. Why does a twelve year old need to be exposed to something like this?

  I feel so sad for my kids. My parents used to drop me off at the library as a teenager, I practically lived there. I read an average of eight or so young adult books each week, plus a healthy dose of classic authors like Dickens and Austen. I felt safe grabbing any book off the shelf and my parents felt safe too. Now, we’re in a world where I’ll have to closely police my kid’s selections. My daughter is six and picked a comic book called “detective baby.” Half way through, there’s a gay couple and the babysitters are flirting with each other and my daughter is sad that we’re not finishing this chapter book that was clearly intended for her age and reading level. It’s utterly disturbing what’s in the YA section and it is creeping younger and younger. 😒
