I think my favorite take on immortality is in the Sandman comics & show. Basically, Dream asks his sister (Death) to make some egotistical medieval asshole in a pub immortal and says to meet him in 100 years, expecting him to be begging to die.

Except the man loves it, he still looks youthful and has energy, and he thanks Dream for the gift he was given.

Then every 100 years they meet at the same tavern, and every time they become more and more like friends. Eventually, Dream realizes that Death allowed it because she probably wanted him to have a genuine friendship with a human so he stops being so cynical. It works, too, because Dream acts more human in his decision making and views of his other siblings that besides Death.

Just a guy LOVING immortality and living the ultimate life, getting hundreds of hobbies, having hundreds of happy marriages that he appreciated, etc is such a contrast to the more pessimistic idea of immortality. I LOVE it.

One of my favorite line in doctor who is "what if you were really old and really kind, and the very very last of your kind you could not just stand there and watch children cry"

“People are inherently stubborn and that's something I refuse to change my mind on” 😆 Brilliant!

I still think there are huge stakes for the Doctor "dying". They aren't just ageless. If they die, they regenerate every cell in their body and that changes their appearance completely, and their personality slightly.
The stakes here are big for the audience, who grew attached to an actor's portrayal of the Doctor, and don't want to see them gone. I know people who have quit the show entirely when Tennant's Doctor had "died", even if the character was still the same, essentially.
And the stakes are still there for the Doctor themselves. Imagine knowing that you will change completely when you die. Would it be someone better than you are? Would it be someone worse? Is it still the same "you"? It's kinda terrifying to think about that.

The Doctor also doesn't care what his peers think about him... cause he has no peers. They were the Time Lords and they aren't around anymore

If you take into account the fact that captain Jack turns into The Face of Boe he definitely doesnt stay cocky and hyped on energy, he very much becomes callous, old, tired, sad and lonely. He meets the doctor when he finally does just die at the end of his story the doctor doesnt even know who he is anymore and hes meet hims countless times traveling through time and space, so in the end Captain Jack has no one who remembers him as such, even the doctor doesnt recognize him when he becomes The face.

28:43 The reason that rory doesn't change in 2000 years is because he ISN'T human at that time, he was erased and then his memeories was put into sentient plastic robot; he stays the same because its all software

4:22 To be fair, Omni-Man saw people he considered as lesser than him as "worthless" because of his Viltrumite upbringing, not the fact that he was over 2000 years old at the time.

26:39 what it is true is that the brain keep modifying the memory every time you remember it. So an immortal maybe didn't forget something but remembers a twisted version of the moment, they would end up having a dream-like past
