My cat has cancer. She has days left. I sit with her in silence, and thank her for existing. Being present for her even if she is sleeping means something that words cannot express.

When days are average and boring, to me they just seem peaceful.

Not correcting someone in conversation-wow that's huge! I'm going to be more aware of this 👍🏻

I just created a list of important phone numbers (and addresses) that I keep tucked in my wallet and I have a second copy in my car. Just a small sheet of paper, takes up no room, and you don’t have to worry about remembering a dozen different numbers. I’m embracing my GenX ways before phones and internet. Never underestimate the value of simple pen and paper!

The first time I travelled to Italy in 2007, I didn’t have a cell phone, and relied on Internet cafes to call my parents at home. One day I was alone, hopelessly lost, and I didn’t have my paper list of phone numbers, but I saw an Internet cafe and from the depths of my memory I pulled my dad’s phone number and called him. He looked up a map online to help me find a nearby rail station where I could get back to where I was living 😂. I still have his number memorized, so he can never get a new one lol

Re: the beauty of your daily life: remember that pretty much no matter where you live, tourists are a thing. That means people travel hundred or thousands of kilometers to see what you see daily. and they're not doing it because they think it's boring like you do. They're doing it because it is awe-inspiring to them. People travel from afar, to see your local cathedral, your christmas market, your museum, to go on your local hikes, see your local lakes, eat your national food. There's no reason you can't act like a tourist just because you live 10-50km away from a place.

The shoehorn is one of the very few things I prefer in plastic. Wood and metal look much better, but they tend to hurt my heel and are less flexible, which can be annoying if you have smaller shoes than average.

I bought a Lamy fountain pen for around €20. Best purchase ever. It has a unique grip so your hand doesn't ache, and there's something special about writing with a fountain pen.

My previous job (outdoor gear retail) had a culture of having your cellphone on the shop floor: promos and prices were checked on personal phone to look at the website (I'd use the checkout counter computer) - notifications from head office was done via their Meta workplace account....again, I'd use the shopfloor computer. And on days off, you'd be expected to answer queries. I'd make a point of leaving my phone in my work bag, and on days off, turn it off. A phone is a tool, not a newborn infant.
