I started fasting 4 years ago when my then 17 yo son was suicidal. One day after crying out to God, He instructed me to start fasting. 2 months later He healed him completely and now he is living for Jesus. I enjoyed my time with God during those 2 months, never felt closer to Him. I stopped fasting afterwards and started getting depressed. When I asked God what was happening, He said, "Who told you to stop fasting there are other kids that need your prayers and fasting. Then my friends were all complaining about their marriages, there are 7 of us, so we all started fasting, once a week, all on different days of the week for our marriages and have seen some pretty amazing answers to prayer!! Fasting is SO POWERFUL!! Thank You Jesus!!

I recently faster for just a day and I was so angry! Everything my kids did frustrated me, i struggled to pray and read the Word because my boys wanted my attention, I was tired, my son kept waking me up in the night to nurse (he’s 18 months and doesn’t need to do that)…there was just no joy in my heart for what I was doing. But I think God led me to understand that fasting isn’t about perfection but progress. He also helped me see how great it was that my husband and I were fasting together because 3 years ago neither of us believed in God. I’ll keep trying ❤ being closer to Christ is worth it

 1) Physical fast( Shift your focus from starving and wasting time casual time)
2) Soul fast( intentional word/ read scripture & connect to God)
3) Spiritual Fast(greater hunger for God’s presence & your prayers become impactful)

Fasting without prayer is just a diet. Lean into the Word and prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to lend you strength as your flesh cries out for attention. God bless you

Lord helper of my soul, let me hunger and thirst for righteousness. Help me to go deeper into your presence.

I love how you said fasting is not about impressing God, but about positioning yourself so He can shape you. That took so much pressure off and replaced it with hunger for more of Him.
