How I Use My Shoulder Rest to Get a Better Sound (works for violin & viola!)

If you experience a scratchy or thin sound, or you’re constantly having trouble with string crossings, your shoulder rest setup might be part of the problem. In this video, I share how I personally use and position my shoulder rest to help get a richer, warmer, and fuller sound from my violin or viola. I’ll show you what I do and why I find this setup helpful for getting a freer, more comfortable response from the instrument. Remember that every player, instrument, and shoulder rest is different. You may need to experiment to find the most comfortable shoulder rest height for your unique setup. But sometimes even just a small adjustment can make a surprisingly big difference.
