Have you done this trail before?

It’s hard to understand how a group of middle aged hikers would enter a slot canyon in Zion national park after being told there was a probability of flooding through the canyon. Where there was no possibility of escape?

This brings back memories from when my dad forced me on a hike to the top of Angels Landing when I was eight years old. I remember being absolutely terrified of death the entire time. On top of that, I then got in trouble when we got back for being so scared and crying too much.

Zions and Southern Utah canyons rock! My favorite places on earth.

I've hiked Angel's Landing. Obviously, I survived. I will not hike it again.

Don't crawl around on mountains in the heat of summer. What's the payoff for that?

I had the opportunity to climb this. It was kind of drizzling consistently that day, I decided it was not a good day to do it. Some of my friends went and some of my friends stayed back. Everyone was fine, and ultimately despite not completing the hike, Zion is still one of my favorite national parks and if you don’t want to do angels landing, just do the Narrows. They’re gorgeous and unique, and there’s no heights ❤

Thank you for explaining the psychological factors that drive hikers to keep hiking despite the dangers. Very interesting and informative. Knowing this can help people realize their thinking processes and maybe will reconsider, thus lives may be saved. I will keep this in mind. This is a sketchy trail, no thanks. I wonder why they don't have triple chains on those posts, it would help someone to not slip under or give extra support when needed (or have wires that a carbinger could clip onto so people can be attached by rope or install stairs).  It is amazing how many trails in the National Parks are dangerous, they hang on cliff edges, are littered with slippery rocks, are narrow, have no handrails, and absorb extreme amounts of heat. I wouldn't completely rely on those chain handrails on Angels Landing trail given the type of stone they are embedded in and how much strain they are under everyday. Though I've become more leery of heights as time has passed so don't have this type of trail on my to do list.
