One of the weapons I used on operations. The G3 was unbelievable. Absolute class.

I happen to live near Oberndorf by chance, and I "used" the G3 while i was serving in the Army inn 91. It is bulky and heavy and had a strong recoil. Not a beauty but impressingly simple.
Interestingly the other remarkable and more famous gun also had roller mechanism that was working with recoil: The MG3 that basically was the MG42. I was much more impressed with that one

I was trained / carried, the H&K Mp5 & the 33.
the 33 was a bit more 'awkward ' to clean & put back together .......
The MP5, was a gift !
We were ' marked ' on our 'handling ' rather than the target, it was simply that accurate

Fun fact: Heckler & Koch used to manufacture machine tools as well; this division was spun off when the company was acquired and is known today worldwide as SW (Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen). Furthermore, since World War II, Oberndorf has been completely undermined by tunnels—much like almost everywhere else in the region; for instance, in Schramberg (10 km away), Junghans manufactured time fuses during the war. Additionally, Rheinmetall currently manufactures tank gun barrels in Oberndorf.

That's a huge maglite mounted on top of a MP5. We came a long way since then.
