Ash is the best aged part of this movie. Everyone knows there's a killer alien in this movie. No one expects the corporate sponsored killer robot.

'I can't lie to you about your chances... but you have my sympathies.'
What makes it even more creepier is that Ash has barely shown any emotion throughout... then he drops that sadistic grin, almost as if he's been playing them all along. Ian Holm was PERFECT for this role, what phenomenal acting.

Always fun to see people who've never seen Alien have to deal with face-huggers and chest-bursters. 🤣

It is not "the government" that is doing this, as Rana keeps saying. It is THE COMPANY -- Weyland-Yutani.

I love how they wanted the crew to shoot it completely forgetting that it has acidic blood.

About the question of why they all leave to investigate and nobody stays in orbit, the answer is that they can't. What you see going down to the moon to investigate is actually the Nostromo, the entire ship.
What remains behind is the ore refinery they were towing to Earth with all the mineral. Basically they unhooked the cargo section, left it in orbit and then landed the whole ship to investigate.

It wasn't the government that sent Ash, it was the corporation they are contracted to.

Decapitating Ash is one of my favorite practical effects. It's so disturbing.

Some trivia for you, the man in the suit was a 6’10 Nigerian man named Bolaji Badejo. He was a graphic design student that Ridley Scott unexpectedly discovered in a London pub while searching for someone really tall to be the Alien. :)

Fun fact: H.R. Geiger's designs were so disturbing and horrifying that he was actually pulled over by airport security before he could fly out to the film set.

Another fun fact: To achieve the shear size of both the derelict ship and the Space Jockey, the people in the spacesuits are Ridley Scott's kids.

The characters don't know they're in a horror movie.
