1:07:00 something to unpack here. Instancing and QDSM are separate things. Right now in 4.10, the Instance Manager distributes Instances onto instance only servers, that are added and removed from the mesh at run time. That is the QDSM part, because previously they couldn't reconfigure the mesh at runtime. However this is just to maintain shard/server performance based on the number of instances in use and the load they generate. During PTU they weren't doing this. They Instance Manager was, as intended, assigning instances to territories and thus the servers that manage them based on load calculation. This is "leverage the compute power of the mesh" that Benoit was talking about when discussing instancing. With actual dynamic server meshing it won't be a binary distinction, and allows the flexibility to scale the mesh based on territory load including instances distributed across those territories. They're already working on this part, the rest of the DSM work that goes beyond what they already developed for Instancing and QDSM. Benoit discussed some of this in SC Testing Chat and it was also talked about in the patch notes for 4.10 going live, as well as the July Monthly Report.
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/lobby/38230/message/66920304

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/Patch-Notes/21293-Star-Citizen-Alpha-410

I also think a lot of people don't understand/confuse the Engine with the Backend/Server/Network infrastructure. Those are two different things. The Engine isn't THE problem, while it has problems and has room for improvement, part of the reason SQ 42 has had as much development focus, to include the Engine Team, is because it isn't so stymied by the progress on the Backend/Server/Network infrastructure. Work that accounts for so much of the development teams efforts, as CR spoke about in his letter and we really already knew. That infrastructure and the services and systems that go with it, that Benoit has talked about at length, that they are hardening now before resuming the work that was done on them that we read about in the Monthly Reports last year and even before, that is all part of the 1.0 and DSM goal. A goal that is delayed because they are taking the time to improve the experience now because they recognized it had degraded as we were screaming about how bad it was getting.

Prediction: October playtest goes ahead. Feedback is 'pretty good. Some rough edges'. Blockbuster trailer with specific release date at the Game Awards 2026. SQ42 releases in April, a few weeks ahead of Invictus 2027, with the hope being that a sucessful SQ42 lauch supercharges Invictus sales.

32:48 That's a relatively common practice. Some devs let creators record and some don't. It usually comes down to how close to release the game is. Normally, when they don't allow recording, they will provide pre-recorded footage of the playthrough. So I hope they at least give content creators some pre-recorded footage of the playthrough or, at the very least, unrelated, but new B-roll of gameplay.

32:20 The discussion on the release dates made me realize something. CIG hasn’t release a game in decades. They are naive on how long it takes to finish a game. It’s like any big project, when you are 90% done, you still have 30% to go. It is a very consistent thing with CIG to underestimate how much time things will take. This is why they are pulling all nighters on every patch and they always feel half baked, because they are. The game would be much more enjoyable if the PTU was available for an entire patch cycle, not just the last week.

33:09 to be fair Rockstar did this exact thing with GTA 6. They invited people like TGG earlier this year. They didn't even let him play the game but they sat him down with one of the co heads of the company who played the game for 3 hours and he watched taking notes of he saw

Included in the letter was the comment about the October event and announcing more after that. Sounds like they want to see how the event goes - maybe have a post event analysis etc. If they then announce an actual release date and say that they will be starting their marketing campaign (I assume) after Christmas all good; if not there will be questions. Be interesting to see what and when those invited will be allowed to talk about - although realistically it will be hard to stop "leaks" I assume so maybe they will simply allow folks to talk about their impressions.

Watched a couple news videos about this and now I’m getting stuff in my feed. The economy of influencers along with all the backers are part of the problem. What will get the game out is drop off in interest and money, because right now it’s just a funding mechanism to keep people employed indefinitely.
