I got a crockpot for my high school graduation in 1976. At the time I thought it was an odd gift for a guy. I was told, "you will appreciate it when you go to university next fall." That fall I got my first apartment, had classes all day and, damn, that crockpot, was the reason there was always food at my place all through undergrad and grad school.

I’m 70 years old and I still have my mother’s crockpot from the 70s. It has the liberty bell and 1776 on it and it still works. In fact I just used it this morning. They don’t make them like that anymore.

Crockpot cooking is how my children were raised, when you work a minimum of 8hrs a day, dinner still had to be on<br> the table . Children's stomachs were always on time.
