I love to use--every day--my 'wedding china and crystal'. I loved giving away a set of small liquor glasses to a very silly friend of my daughter. I even wash my china and crystal in the dishwasher when we have gathering. Guest gasp, and I tell them that my china and crystal told me that they would prefer to die in the dishwasher or outside on the patio than to gather dust in the china cabinet. (Lots of other things have not spoken to me so clearly, I must admit.) Other treasures have gone to people who never had the joy of crystal or fine china. Still other things went via hospice helper to other families at the 'last holiday' with a loved one. Still learning and trying to appreciate with out worrying that my daughters will find these things a burden that I promised NOT to create for them...

I realized when I started,giving away the heaviervtools,a,couple of years,ago that my sadness was,not about the heavy sander or thesaw,it was the,recognition that at 80 I no longer was going to do projects that needed those,tools,that I was,saying good bye to the version of the woman who rehab ed her homes or at lrast,put up shelves and fences. I am no longer strong enough nor interested enough. I'm 85 in Maryland,just outside DC

I moved from a 2500 sq foot house in Oklahoma, into an adult living facility, in Roanoke VA. It was a 2 bedroom apartment with 913 sq feet. I used your method to decide what to keep and what to donate. I live alone, but I do have 4 sets of sheets and 6 bath towels. I'll keep them.
