At first I was like "one shot?" Then "Wow, that is a helluva shot" Seriously, you could play this clip 1000 times and find something new every time.

My uncle was there in 1940, he made it off the beach and back to England but never went to war again, spending the rest of his service as a butcher in Aldershot. My cousin wasn't so lucky, he was part of the rear-guard, and was shot and killed at age 19 and buried in a French cemetary.

I'm in this shot. I was one of the extras. Only see me for a second. Fun day in Redcar back in 2006. They took six takes of this shot, this was number 5. The sixth, the cameraman, who I will say was hard as nails, collapsed from exhaustion. Everyone gave him a standing ovation.

Edit: I'm the next shot too. Totally forgot about it. That factory is the Ice Factory on Grimsby Docks. They camped us up on the old fish market.

Didn't expect this scene at all while watching the film. Far better work than any shot I've seen in Nolan's Dunkirk, pure poetry in motion this one shot scene. The dimmed sun behind the ragged clouds at sunfall, with the ragged sails of the destroyed boat mirroring them, the crowded beach, the old building facing north, the anarchy amidst the thousands of soldiers, the melancholic improvised choir song... it's all perfect, expertly shot.

One of the most beautifully shot scenes in British cinema. Gorgeous, yet devastating - as is the whole film.

I always find that the movie Atonement did a much better job then Dunkirk at showing what Dunkirk actually looked like during the evacuation. Sometimes having abitta CGI can help alot like it did in Atonement

Today is the anniversary of the sinking of the paddle steamer The Waverley at Dunkirk. My grandfather was on of the men on board. He survived but a quarter of his comrades didn't make it. God bless you and keep you we will never forget you.

I can't get enough of how the score music melds with that choir.
