Everyone forgets about one of my favorite musicians in this movie. The great Johnny Lee Hooker was the guy playing outside right before Jake and Elwood went into Aretha Franklin’s diner.

Steve Cropper, the longhaired lead guitar player, passed away on December 3, 2025 at the age of 84.<br><br>Cropper & Donald "Duck" Dunn (the pipe smoking bass player) were members of Booker T & The MGs best known for their instrumental hit "Green Onions".<br><br>Cropper also co-wrote Otis Redding's "(Sittin On) The Dock of The Bay".<br><br>"The Blues Brothers" was a love letter to American music.

I’m a Joliet native, and when this film came out in 1980, my Catholic high school had “We’re on a mission from God” as our Homecoming theme, and we had a Dress Like a Blues Brother Day during Homecoming Week. The shorter of the two prison guards escorting Jake across the Collins Street prison was Father Gerald Walling, who was my drama professor at Marquette University in 1986. When he found out I was from Joliet, he told me some stories about filming there.

After watching 1000s of films, this may still be my all-time favorite.

"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses."<br>"Hit it."

Sharp eyes! That was Chaka Khan in the Church Choir. The Prison employee who gives Jake his personal effects was Frank Oz (voice of Yoda and Miss Piggy).
