The pose they're in is reserved exclusively for married couples. The gods of ancient Egypt were gender-fluid. The first act of creation was performed by a being that was both male and female. A pharaoh changed gender to embody a divine role. A god tried to dominate another god through sex — and lost when his rival's mother outsmarted him with a head of lettuce. And for three thousand years, no Egyptian law, no religious text, and no moral instruction condemned same-sex love between adults. Not once.
