This video made me realize that the fruit of the spirit is not produced by me but by abiding in Christ and allowing the Holy Spirit to live through me.

The orange is indeed one of the best analogies for the Fruit of the Holy Spirit because it perfectly illustrates the relationship between unity and diversity.

This analogy is often used to explain Galatians 5:22-23.

Here is how you can explain it:

1. Unity vs. Plurality (The "Fruit" is Singular)
A common mistake is to say "the fruits" of the Spirit. However, the Bible uses the singular word "Fruit."

The Orange:
It is one single fruit. You don't hold nine oranges; you hold one.

The Application: The Fruit is a single result of the Holy Spirit's presence.
You don't get to "pick and choose" which parts you want; it is a package deal.

2. The Segments as Attributes
Even though the orange is one fruit, when you peel it, you find several segments (or slices).

The Application: Each segment represents one of the nine characteristics mentioned by Paul: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Just as you wouldn't say a segment is a different type of fruit, you cannot separate "peace" from "love" in a Christian's character—they are all part of the same essence.

3. The Peel: Protection and Identity

The peel holds all the segments together and protects them from drying out or rotting.

The Application: This represents the Holy Spirit Himself. He is the one who binds these virtues together. Without the "peel" (the Spirit), these traits would just be human efforts that eventually fail or fall apart.

4. Uniform Ripening
An orange doesn't usually have one segment that is ripe while the others are sour and green.

The Application: Spiritual growth is holistic. As you mature in the Spirit, you don't just grow in "kindness" while remaining "angry." The Holy Spirit works to ripen the entire Fruit at the same time, balancing your character across all nine traits.

5. Purpose: Flavor and Nutrition
An orange isn't just for looking at; it is meant to be consumed to provide health and hydration.

The Application: The Fruit of the Spirit is not for "spiritual show." It exists to benefit others. People around you should be "nourished" by your patience, "refreshed" by your peace, and "strengthened" by your love.

Wow! This was so insightful. I know birth Galatians 5:22 and John 15:5 but have not put them together. Now I know what it means by let scripture interpret scripture.

This just settled me so much. The struggle of works and instead trying to just live for Christ is rooted in abiding in Him. This makes me well up with tears of joy.

I have been trying desperately to produce my own fruit. 😔 this video has helped me realize just how wrong I’ve been. Running to Jesus to dwell in His presence and trust his plan.

spent years treating patience like a project. set goals, tracked it, failed, started over. nothing ever changed. only recently it hit me i was asking the wrong question the whole time. not "how do i get more patient" but "why do i even react like that" turned out underneath it was just fear of not being heard. was treating the symptom, not the root :body-blue-raised-arms:
