  I fucking love how not only GF has a bigger role to play here, actually singing as well, but also how in the forefront the love BF and GF have for one another is. It really feels young and rash yet real. Loving these songs

She&apos;s not just trying to make sure BF&apos;s going to be the right one for GF, she&apos;s scared of letting her babygirl grow up, she&apos;s scared of not being there to protect her.

  Holy crap! First of all, bold choice using GF instead of BF, but honestly I think y&apos;all played it perfectly. Second of all, fire song, I feel like that&apos;s something I&apos;d actually hear on the radio, it was amazing.

  This is such a good exploration of abusive parents and how it&apos;s honestly kind of sympathetic to Mommy Mearest while still absolutely treating her as in the wrong here.<br><br>There are plenty of unhealthy tactics expressed by Mommy Mearest here. She pushes herself as the highest authority (&quot;Listen, you know you oughta | Heed the words of your mama&quot;), calls the situation &apos;unnecessary drama&apos;, constantly calls GF&apos;s actions foolish, and describes her as selfish for not following what mother says. Mommy Mearest LITERALLY tries to hypnotize GF and forces her will onto GF. Mommy Mearest doesn&apos;t see GF as her own person, she sees her as an extension of herself. An extension of the Mearest lineage. GF is, unambiguously, in the right here. It wants you to agree with GF here. Mommy Mearest is being extremely unreasonable and she should allow for BF to date GF.<br><br>But. It&apos;s extremely clear that Mearest loves her, and that GF loves her back. I mean, they pretty much say it explicitly. Mommy Mearest constantly calls her pet names. Mommy Mearest wants GF to live a life of splendor and where anything GF might want is at her fingertips. She begs GF to tell her what GF needs, she longingly asks why GF has to leave her family. Mommy Mearest is 100% in the belief that she&apos;s doing right here. That her daughter is simply in the wrong headspace and is destroying herself, and if Mommy Mearest pushes her will onto GF that everything will be okay. More deeply, Mearest is deeply afraid. She&apos;s afraid that GF disobeying her like this means GF is going away, that she no longer cares for her mother, that she&apos;s going to get herself destroyed and if Mearest doesn&apos;t do something that it will be her fault.<br>Like LITERALLY the last few lines make Mommy Mearest&apos;s fears explicit.<br><br>&quot;Oh, dear daughter | A bond that flows in demon&apos;s blood | Or vows beneath the stars above | I ask, dear daughter | The covenant I bleed with shunned | So is the womb the HIGHest love | Oh, no&quot;<br><br>I fucking LOOOOOVE these lyrics it&apos;s the best part of the song. This makes the themes of the song very clear. Which is stronger? Familial love, or romantic love. Obviously, there is no clear answer, but. In this specific context? Girlfriend says it clear in an earlier lyric. &quot;Yeah, his love is unconditional.&quot; BF&apos;s love for Girlfriend is unconditional. And throughout the ENTIRE song, with how much Mommy Mearest insults her daughter and tries to literally hypnotize her? Mommy Mearest&apos;s love is very very conditional here. Conditional on &nbsp;the idea that GF does what Mearest wants. But Mommy Mearest just flat out does not realize this. Mommy Mearest&apos;s fear is that the womb is not the highest love. That GF is going to leave her, and that GF&apos;s love to her is less then the love to BF. And that fear is almost confirmed. Confirmed with the &apos;oh no.&apos; that the two sing together.
