Wonderful lecture! Here in México, every town has a 9 day festival for their patron saint. School is cancelled, and people are out in the plaza dancing, playing music, and socializing late into the night. There are rides and activities for the children, processions and masses, and wonderful food. I remember reading in Covarrubia´s Isthmus De Tehuantepec, that the traditional communities has 263 festivals per year, so I imagine they were either preparing for, enjoying, or cleaning up in remembrance of the divine all of the time! I applaud your revival of traditions in England, it will improve mental health tremendously!

I love the example of sports or other activities to bring us into the present moment. Sometimes I do that when painting or peeling potatoes.

As a lifelong North American Roman Catholic, your comments about Catholic cathedrals made me curious. I had never looked into it before, so I was surprised to learn that every RC diocese was required to have a cathedral (as 'cathedra," seat, of the bishop or archbishop of that diocese). With 176 Latin Rite and 18 Eastern Rite diocese in the US, that adds up to a lot of cathedrals! My pilgrimage site is the amazing St. Paul Cathedral in St. Paul Minnesota, where I lived for many years, but there are definitely many others to choose from, as I now (belatedly!) know. As always, Rupert, thank you so much for your lovely talk.
