I got my 2020 Illustrated Alan Lee edition today, and I have to say I cannot remember ever being this impressed simply by opening a book.

Thank you for this comparison video! Was unsure which version to get since it's my first time reading this series, but you've convinced me to bite the bullet and get the 2020 illustrated edition :)

The harper Collins hardbacks blow all the others away in my opinion due to the stunning artwork on the sleeves

I have the millennium edition including the cd. Its a disc of Tolkien himself recording himself reading passages from the books. The six book thing is consistent with each of the three book editions being comprised of two books each plus the appendices

Wonderful comparison. My wife and I love books and were trying to decide on a set. You really sold us on the 2020 edition with that beautiful artwork.
